About the Artist

Melanie Redman has been painting for over 12 years and now resides in the beautiful town of Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada. She is a mother of two with a BSc who currently works in native plants for the Ktunaxa Nation. Her western science training along with her spiritual practice inspires her work - tending to focus on native plants and critters. Many of her pieces are watercolor and ink medium tending to be tight and deliberately reflective of actual individuals she came across. Periodically, she is inspired by an experience, feeling, or commissioned for something that requires a loser style.
Melanie is of Cree/Saulteaux/Settler descent and works to incorporate her cultural learnings in her work through research of medicinal uses, alternate names, and the spirit of each critter. She grew up on a berry farm under the care of her creative and driven mother and her Cree/Saulteaux father (passed) who was trained in forestry and habitat management.

"The natural flow and rhythms of water is as powerful as it is playful. I find it comforting; it reminds me to be patient and let go. Only when I try to control it too much, am I unhappy with the result.
I want my art to demonstrate the natural strength and beauty in the world, flaws and all."
